Model: Mac Pro, MacPro1,1, Dual-Core Intel Xeon, Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz, Number Of Processors: 2, Total Number Of Cores: 4, L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB, Memory: 3 GB, Bus Speed: 1.33 GHz, Boot ROM Version: MP11.005D.B00, SMC Version: 1.7f10
Was on FireFox going through Google images for design reference and noticed after shutting down and then starting up next day that iMail.app, dictionary.app & System Preferences.app/Internet & Network/.Mac; all shut down unexpectedly. All share the same common REPORT (3 reports below) of: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001), KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE (0x0002) at 0x00309bb8.
Also tried to reset: ~libraryPreferencescom.apple.mail.plist. Once this file was deleted and replaced w/ another form my MacBook, Mail.app was able to load again. Although, when clicking on any old or new mail it unexpectedly closes. Other apps like Adobe CS3 Illustrator, Photoshop, Internet browsers: Firefox, Safari don't seem to be affected.
I have checked to make sure my hard disk is in good health: booting from the Mac OS X Install CD (Tiger), and selected 'Disk Utility' no repairs were necessary. As well, tried repairing the drive's permissions: booting up from the normal, internal hard drive, then opened 'Disk Utility' and selected 'Repair Permissions'. Ran Mcafee's: VirusScan for Mac; no bugs found.
